1 August 2025 | Midlands State University
Under the blazing promise of a new dawn, Midlands State University (MSU) flung open its gates on the 1st of August 2025, welcoming over two thousand bright-eyed high school pupils from across Zimbabwe to its much-anticipated Open Day.
Themed “MSU At 25: Your Bridge to a Brighter Future,” the event was a vibrant celebration of the University’s silver jubilee—a quarter-century of developing minds, inspiring innovation, and shaping destinies.
The day kicked off with stirring words from Professor M. Maphosa, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Administration, who seized the moment to inspire the next generation of leaders.
“This is your university,” he declared, “a place where dreams take flight, where potential meets opportunity. Today, explore, ask questions, and see for yourself why MSU is the launchpad for greatness.”
Pupils were then guided through the academic pathways available at MSU by Mr. Shava, Principal Assistant Registrar – Admissions, who demystified entry requirements for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
No MSU event is complete without a touch of artistic brilliance.
The University’s Music Band, under the Department of Music Business and Technology, set the campus alight with electrifying performances.
Pupils clapped, danced, and even joined in—proof that MSU doesn’t just educate; it exhilarates.
The crescendo of the morning came with an impassioned address from Mr. Bhowa, Acting Director of Marketing and Communications, who delivered the vote of thanks while weaving a powerful narrative of MSU’s journey over the past 25 years.
“Look around you,” he urged the pupils, “you are not visitors here today—you are the future. The future of this university, of Zimbabwe, of Africa, and of the world. Without you, there is no MSU story.”
His words resonated deeply, reinforcing the University’s community-driven ethos.
This was not just an Open Day; it was an invitation to ownership, a call to join a legacy.
The afternoon was a whirlwind of discovery as pupils toured MSU’s world-class facilities—from cutting-edge laboratories and the vast main library to state-of-the-art sporting facilities.
The Research and Innovation Division showcased groundbreaking projects, offering a glimpse into the university’s role as a hub of creativity and problem-solving.
Lecturers and researchers from MSU’s 10 faculties engaged with pupils, answering questions and sparking curiosity.
The buzz of conversation, the hum of excitement—it was clear: MSU was not just displaying its strengths; it was forging connections.
The presence of Principal Officers, Executive Deans, and Directors underscored the significance of the Open Day to the university community.
Their engagement sent a powerful message: MSU is invested, not just in its present, but in the futures of every young mind that walked through its gates.
With each passing year, the Open Day cements MSU’s reputation as a trusted institution—one that doesn’t just teach but transforms.
The record turnout was a testament to the growing confidence of stakeholders in the #WEAREMSU brand.
