GWERU, Zimbabwe – Midlands State University (MSU) oriented newly appointed staff members to the institution’s core operational frameworks of culture, security, and welfare during an induction workshop held on 31 October 2025 at the Gweru Main Campus.

The event, designed to prepare the workforce for service excellence, provided comprehensive briefings on organisational structure, staff rights, and campus safety protocols.

Dr. W. Matsa, Deputy Director – Quality Assurance and Professional Development Directorate, set the strategic tone for the workshop, framing the session as an essential initiation.

“Consider this workshop your official welcome to the MSU family,” Dr. Matsa stated,  “More importantly, it is your initiation into the spirit and culture that defines us – a culture deeply enshrined in our mission, vision, and core values.”

The agenda progressed with a focus on the University’s external and internal duties.

Representing the Marketing and Communications Directorate, Mr. J. K. Bhowa, Communications Manager, detailed the critical role of Stakeholder and Customer Care Services in fostering a positive university image.

A significant segment addressed staff welfare.

Dr. P. Toungana, Director of MSU Health Services, outlined the available health resources and wellness strategies accessible to employees.

Mr. T. Nyamande, Principal Assistant Registrar for Human Resources, provided a detailed breakdown of staff rights, benefits, and professional responsibilities as defined by the University’s official Code of Conduct.

To ensure a secure working environment, Ms. G. Mvududu, Director – Risk and Loss Control, educated attendees on established campus safety protocols.

The formal presentations concluded with Dr. D. Nemaramba, Director of the Secretariat, who provided a clear roadmap of the University’s organisational structure and internal systems.

The workshop underscores the University’s commitment to integrating new staff thoroughly, equipping them with essential knowledge and a firm grounding in institutional values.

This initiative solidifies MSU’s role in cultivating dedicated professionals essential for advancing the nation’s industrialisation agenda.
