Zvishavane, 12 July 2025 – In a dazzling display of camaraderie, corporate synergy, and sporting excellence, Midlands State University (MSU) lit up the mining town of Zvishavane with its Silver Jubilee Golf Tournament, held at the pristine Roland Park Golf Club.
The event, the second major celebration on MSU’s 25th Anniversary Calendar, followed the spectacular launch at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on 15 May 2025.
True to its multicampus ethos, the University brought the jubilee festivities to Zvishavane—home to its Faculty of Arts & Humanities and Faculty of Engineering & Geosciences—reinforcing its commitment to taking higher education to the people.
The tournament was more than just a sporting spectacle; it was a testament to MSU’s deep-rooted partnerships with Zimbabwe’s corporate and academic giants.
Sponsors and partners, including Mimosa Mining Co, Old Mutual, NICOZ Diamond, FC Platinum Holdings, Interlink Advertising, Chinhoyi University of Technology, First Mutual, ZERA, Platinum Investment Managers, Lupane State University, Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences, Gwanda State University, ZB Bank, Stanbic Bank, National University of Science and Technology, Memo Deco and Zimbabwe Open University , converged to celebrate a shared legacy of innovation, community impact, and nation-building.
In his address at the cocktail and prize-giving ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Victor Ngonidzashe Muzvidziwa reflected on MSU’s transformative journey.
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together,” he declared, acknowledging the unwavering support of partners who have walked with MSU over the past 25 years.
He highlighted how Zvishavane, once a fading mining town, had been revitalised into a thriving academic and economic hub since MSU’s arrival a decade ago.
Dr. Mashingaidze, FC Platinum President, praised the University for bridging the gap between academia and industry, stating:
“MSU has redefined higher education by bringing the university to the people. Their model is not just about learning—it’s about community transformation.”
Mr. Shepherd Mandimutsa of Nyaradzo Group echoed these sentiments, applauding MSU’s accessible and inclusive approach to education.
Meanwhile, Roland Park Golf Club President Mr. Mukono thanked Mimosa Mining Company for maintaining the course in championship condition and expressed gratitude to MSU for choosing Zvishavane as a jubilee host.
The tournament was a resounding success, with players from various institutions and corporates competing in a festive yet competitive atmosphere.
The climax was a lively prize-giving ceremony, where even the “most golfer” (a humorous nod to enthusiastic participants) was celebrated.
Professor G. Mugumbate, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Industrialisation, closed the event by thanking sponsors, organisers, and attendees for fostering a culture of collaboration.
As the sun set over Roland Park, the celebrations transitioned into a vibrant cocktail networking session, where deals were discussed, partnerships strengthened, and the MSU spirit of unity shone brightest.
Through its multicampus model, MSU continues to disrupt traditional education, embedding itself in communities and industries alike.
This tournament was not just a sporting event—it was a celebration of 25 years of excellence, impact, and the power of going far—together.
