The Harare International Conference Centre buzzed with pride and nostalgia on May 15, 2025, as Midlands State University (MSU) launched its Silver Jubilee Dinner, celebrating a quarter-century of academic excellence, inspiring innovation and shaping destinies.

The auspicious event which attracted government officials, corporate sectors, academic institutions, the diplomatic corps, alumni and students was held under the theme, ‘Celebrating 25 years of academic excellence, inspiring innovation and shaping destinies’.

The event kicked off in spectacular fashion as the MSU Music Band and the Film & Theatre Arts students delivered a breathtaking performance— captivating the audience with a narrative of the University’s journey over the past quarter-century, leaving the audience mesmerized.

Delivering his welcome remarks, the MSU Vice Chancellor Professor V. N. Muzvidziwa expressed his gratitude to the attendees highlighting that their attendance testifies to the mutual relationship between the University and its stakeholders.

“This momentous occasion testifies to the hard work and teamwork of Midlands State University, government and industry in a mutually beneficial tripartite relationship,” declared Professor Muzvidziwa.

Advocate C. F. Dube, MSU’s Founding Council Chairperson, took the audience on a poignant trip down memory lane, recounting the institution’s humble beginnings and the visionary leadership that laid its strong governance foundation.

“Right from the beginning, our vision was to lay a solid foundation that would enable sustained growth of the institution.

“Cognizant of this vision, we set up structures that enabled efficient and effective decision-making, ensuring accountability, transparency and collaboration,” revealed Advocate Dube.

During the introduction of the guest of honour, the President of Zimbabwe, Comrade Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, represented by the Minister of Defense Forces Comrade O. M. Kashiri, the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Ambassador F. Shava, highlighted that MSU has grown phenomenally since its establishment in 1999, emerging as a leading institution in Zimbabwe and beyond.

The guest of honour, President E.D. Mnangagwa—represented by the Minister of Defense Forces Comrade O. M. Kashiri, chronicles the remarkable achievements the University has achieved since its inception in teaching, learning, research, community engagement, innovation and industrialisation.

“The institution has been relentless in pursuit of its mandate to shape the destinies of our young people, as reflected in its motto, ‘Our Hands, Our Minds, Our Destiny,”remarked the guest of honour.

The event featured an array of speakers who commended the University on its remarkable journey and resilience over the past 25 years.

The ceremony culminated in a cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the growth of the University.

The event honoured MSU’s 25-years legacy of excellence in developing minds, inspiring innovations and shaping destinies.
