ZVISHAVANE, Zimbabwe – Midlands State University’s Tugwi Mukosi Multidisciplinary Research Institute hosted a public lecture at the University’s Zvishavane Campus on 23 October, 2025, to outline a transformative educational path for national industrialisation and youth empowerment.
Held under the theme “Leveraging Heritage Based Education 5.0: A Pathway To Industrialisation and Youth Empowerment,” the public lecture gathered university staff, students, business leaders and government officials to position the doctrine as a strategic national response to economic challenges.
Dr. Misheck Sibanda, the retired Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, argued that for a nation to thrive, it must build an education policy from the ground up that moves beyond theory to creation and production.
“Education 5.0 is rooted in heritage and self-identity, both for individual citizens and as a collective,” he said.
He described the model as a fundamental paradigm shift, driven by practicality, innovation and industrialisation, and challenged universities to lead this change by directing their Innovation Hubs and manufacturing plants to serve community development projects.
Representing the Vice Chancellor, MSU Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Mcebisi Maphosa, expressed MSU’s “full commitment” to implementing the Education 5.0 framework at the public lecture.
Professor Jephias Matunhu, Executive Director of the Tugwi Mukosi Institute, expressed profound gratitude for Dr. Sibanda’s “invaluable insights,” noting that the address had sparked enriching discussions and solidified the imperative for a practical, industry-focused education system.
The lecture reinforced MSU’s commitment to driving industrialisation, fostering youth development, and deepening its engagement with communities as central to this mission.
