As Midlands State University proudly marks its 25th anniversary under the theme “Celebrating 25 Years of Developing Minds, Inspiring Innovation, and Shaping Destiny,” the MSU Gender Institute (MSUGI) is thrilled to invite the entire MSU community to join us in commemorating International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 on 8 March. This year’s global theme, #AccelerateAction, calls for renewed commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women across all spheres of life.

International Women’s Day is a powerful annual event that celebrates the remarkable achievements of women, raises awareness about gender equality, and highlights the ongoing challenges women face, including gender-based violence and systemic barriers. It is a day to reflect on the progress made, while also recognising the work still needed to create a more equitable and inclusive world.

In alignment with MSU’s Silver Jubilee celebrations, the MSUGI will host a series of vibrant events to honour the contributions of women within our university and beyond. These events will serve as a dynamic platform to share inspiring stories, amplify voices, and mobilise action to dismantle the obstacles that hinder gender equality.

We call upon all MSU students and staff to step forward in solidarity, celebrating the women who shape our University community and working together to foster a safer, more empowering, and equitable environment for all. Let us use this moment to reflect on MSU’s 25-year legacy of nurturing minds and shaping destinies, while recommitting ourselves to building a future where every woman can thrive.

As part of our Women’s Month celebrations, we invite you to share your accolades, stories, and experiences as women or advocates for women’s rights. Your narratives will not only honour the spirit of IWD 2025 but also contribute to the rich tapestry of MSU’s 25-year journey.

Let’s make every day count in our mission to #AccelerateAction for gender equality. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future.
